Along with Baptism and the Eucharist, Confirmation completes the three sacraments of initiation. During this sacrament, the grace given at Baptism is strengthened. Therefore, all who have been Baptized should also be confirmed to complete their initiation into the faith. With the laying on of hands and anointing with oil, the Holy Spirit is poured out on those being confirmed just like it was poured out on the apostles during Pentecost. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, reverence, and wonder and awe. Confirmation is performed by a bishop, emphasizing that this sacrament fully incorporates the confirmand into the one, catholic, and apostolic church.
Young people are confirmed at Blessed Seelos Parish as part of their eleventh grade formation in the Parish School of Religion (PSR). Confirmation usually occurs between April and June, depending on the availability of the bishop. Please register for PSR with Arthine Powers by calling the parish office.
Confirmation of adults is performed simultaneously with Baptism and First Holy Communion as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Program. Please visit our RCIA page.
